@tdp_org @staustellsimon the RAF base there used to be home to the Nimrod AWACS so the runway is pretty long.

Edit: 9003 (or 9009 depending on your source) feet long and so able to take the biggest modern aircraft.

@gulfie @tdp_org indeed, think it was also an emergency landing runway for the Space shuttle too. G7 gave some interesting spotting too when that was on!

@staustellsimon @tdp_org as an air cadet I spent a week on base in 1983. Nimrod, Canberra, a US detachment of some
sort (just troops) and my first experience of firing the SLR on the range there. Our sergeants got to try pistols too.
