@David Interesting! We have a similar phenomenon, mostly in Sydney and Melbourne: entire suburbs filled with terrace houses, which are mostly old workers' accommodation (some were large and a bit grand). They were narrow and long, often 2 storey, and all had common walls with their neighbours.
