The healthcare system is so broken. I know some people come to the ER for small reasons because they don't have a family doctor, etc.

But a woman next to us has been here since 7 am. Average wait time is over 14 hours now.

At least it's free 😕

Over eight hours 🕓

The nurses all look pretty bored now. But just one doctor...

@stephanie

ay yie. wishing you health and getting out of there

@stephanie When I went last summer (ended up at the General because it was the closest to where I was) I had a similar trajectory to what yours sounded like. I went in and then rushed from diagnostic to diagnostic immediately. Then I sat for about 8+ hours before being sent home with a raft of prescriptions and referrals. The speed to eliminate life threatening health event was appreciated but by the end they said they were just waiting for a doctor to clear me and that was a bit painful. Silver lining, I guess, is that when it slows down it means they're pretty sure you're not in a life threatening condition.
@dairpo @stephanie the real solution is to like tripple the staff so we’re actually getting real healthcare but in the interim I wish there was a way to short cut those “wait for six hours to be sent home” parts and get you out the door faster.
@auxonic @dairpo @stephanie
If the staff and docs didn't have so many admitted patients to care for, they could look after the walk-in patients faster. But with hospital occupancy above 100%, the emergency department gets filled with those patients and they need ongoing care. So frustrating.
@stephanie how are you?
@deborahh tired. Still in pain. Still haven't been able to eat 😔 we've been waiting on my blood tests for almost 2h30

@stephanie @deborahh

Best wishes and hope you feel better soon. I've been in your shoes.

@stephanie oh no, I'm so sorry, I hope you get the care you need soon! 💚

And that's often what I've said: at least it's free :(

@idzie now that I don't have a heart attack, I think I went down on the triage list, a lot 😅 we're just waiting on my blood test results and we'll probably leave after... Try to get an emergency appointment at our doctor's tomorrow
@idzie @stephanie I’ll take a 14-hour wait over not seeing anyone at all, ever, because I can’t afford it…

@bougiewonderland @idzie well sure, but it could still be better.

I just asked the triage nurse. He told me there are 8-10 people still before me. But he looked at my results and said I should wait. I saw very high platelets being flagged 🤔

@stephanie je pense à toi 🩷
@bougiewonderland @idzie 💜 je veux juste aller me coucher aaah j'espère que l'infirmier a raison que ça vaut la peine d'attendre
@stephanie Du moment que ce n’est pas un cancer de la prostate!

@stephanie and to be clear, the "at least it's free" is usually in the context of "well, at least we don't have to pay for our poor medical care" 😭

It sucks a lot, and has been the reason I've avoided the ER even when I know I should really go. I hope you're seen soon!

@idzie @stephanie Michael Garron in East Toronto has something no one seems to know about and a lot of other hospitals should have that is a non-emergency appointment for minor injuries. You go on their website and make an appointment, then you go there and see the doctor for your (sprain and other minor obvious non life threatening things)
This helps a lot their ER and triage.
Why isn’t this common place, IDK
@stephanie My wife broke her collarbone late last June. I didn’t think I could get her into our small car so I called for a paramedic. They can administer pain meds right away. One of the paramedics was my daughter’s best friend. I don’t know if she has any clout at the QCH but from time of call to discharge was just 3.5 hours. The ER was bustling. This must be a record for Canada.

@stephanie yikes. I know this frustration very well. :(

I hope you get your results soon and can get some rest at home. 🏠
