Sheβs been hitchhiking around Australia from Cairns and has made it to Southwest WA like an absolute champion.
Had to drop her at my turn-off about halfway to the next town, but I gave her my phone number in case she gets stuck. Not the first, I imagine!

@wendypalmer way back when cars got started in the United States, it was just treated as a matter of course that you would stop and pick up hitchhikers. Indeed there were even areas where people would wait on rides and people with cars would swing by and just pick them up and carry them to their destination. No charge if itβs where they were going.

The problem was we were both non-threatening so we each had to wait for the other person to make the first (murder) move π
Back in the '80s and '90s, I'd occasionally pick one up. I never had any issues, just people trying to get somewhere.
I rarely ever see hitchhikers now. Of course I also don't drive as much.
