The U.S. Forest Service has been eliminated. With the stroke of a pen.

"You cannot move a thirty-year watershed study. You cannot relocate a decades-long old-growth monitoring program. You cannot box up a forest and ship it to Colorado. When these facilities close, the experiments die."

BREAKING: Trump Administration Orders Dismantling of the U.S. Forest Service

The headquarters is going to Utah. Every regional office is being shuttered. The research program is being destroyed.

More Than Just Parks
"Anyone who still thinks these are unrelated events, disconnected policy decisions made by different people at different times for different reasons, is in willful denial. This is a coordinated demolition of federal land stewardship in America. Every piece connects. Every move advances the same goal: transferring control of your public lands from professional public servants accountable to you to political operatives accountable to the extraction industry."

The Forest Service was created by an Act of Congress. It can't be "dismantled" by an "order".

When people talk about "complying in advance" with fascists, they're talking about Trump illegally "ordering" the dismantling of a thing, and everyone just...dismantling it.

But the Forest Service should simply continue to do what they're doing, file lawsuits and demand injunctions.

It *literally doesn't matter* that Trump did this. Unless you comply.

This is what boggles my mind on a daily basis: why anyone, anywhere, is complying with any of his orders. No self-respect, no backbone.

It teaches us a valuable lesson, though, and it answers my generation's question to our grandparents about how it seemed so easy for the Nazis to grab power and how there didn't seem to be much restistance while it was still possible and fairly safe to resist...
