As a self-described citizen of the world, and local citizen to the USA, I’d like to share a message to all, especially those of the non-U.S. persuasion.

The last several years have been painful for many of us here in the USA. Some bear silently, others more loudly.

I noticed something today, which may be obvious to the outside, but perhaps not so much in the day-to-day cacophony. (1/3)

What is noticed is resistance. I see it everywhere. Sometimes it’s seems just a sprinkle (Federal court wins), and others like a splash (massive NoKings turnout).

These things matter and while it may seem dark, and possibly too late in many respects, there is every opportunity to turn around. I’d even suggest a slight hope there may be the will to make the structural changes needed to prevent this in the future. (2/3)

If there’s a cautionary tale here, don’t take your democracy for granted. Review your laws and standards. Don’t rely on “norms”. We need to harden democracies against this kind of hacking.

“The World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.” - Thomas Paine (3/3)
