I remember when it was a scandal that a company laid people off over Zoom. Now that seems warm and fuzzy compared to the norm today.

Oracle laid off 30K people with a 6AM email with a link to click and accept terms if they wanted severance.

The Coldest Cold Email: Oracle’s 30,000-Person Layoff Is a Preview of What’s to Come

A 6 a.m. message signed “Oracle Leadership” just ended tens of thousands of careers. Here’s what it means — and what to do if you’re next.

Hard Reset
@carnage4life Going remote was not entirely a worker friendly move, it turns out
@carnage4life that’s brutal

I'm sceptical that a layoff at that scale, only firing staff that aren't needed, is even possible. There is zero chance that the person deciding which 30,000 people go knows what all of them do or what impact their sudden removal will have on the projects they're working on.

I hope when a bunch of them inevitably get their "please come back" emails, they already have a better job lined up.

@petealexharris @Cali @carnage4life Musk tried at Twitter by plugging in social network analysis software into their internal systems to identify the 20% of non-slackers in that famously dysfunctional company. No doubt Ellison will try the same.

Rename Oracle as 'Orrifice', a place that only emits shit.
