just wrote with my sailor 1911 compass after about 5 months and it wrote straightaway, ENDORSE

this is my favorite pen to recommend as a starter pen. it is about $40 and the steel nib is great, takes a cartridge converter and is easy to clean. classic look, lots of colors, and totally unfussy.

@turgon they’re really great, unfortunately i suspect they’ve been discontinued? i haven’t seen them listed on importers’ sites for quite a while, nor can i find any mention on sailor’s site anymore (and searching it pulls up a ton of results for the tuzu, making me wonder if they phased out the compass/profit when they introduced that & redirected pages there…)

i’d love to be wrong about this, as it was my go-to under-$50 recommendation

@brhfl oh no whyyyy
@turgon the cynic in me says ‘too good, cutting into higher-end 1911 sales’ but who knows.

@brhfl I can't find them either 🫠

a 1911L or pro gear is definitely on my list because of the compass!

@turgon their resin work is quite nice; i have a 1911s that i quite love (same size as the compass, i suspect the 1911l would be a bit large for me)

but then, the plastic on the compass felt nicer than its price point too…
