I can't get an endocrinologist to look at me for kidney, adrenal, and metabolic issues because I'm trans. 🫩
@gwynnion At some point, we're going to need doctors that can diagnose their way past nonmodal brains, and any of the long-term treatments required to achieve lifestyle independence with them. And obesity. Let's just say "Endstage-Capitalism Acquired Chronically Elevated Cortisol Disorders", too.
@gwynnion offer to donate a kidney altruistically and they will pay to test your kidneys

@gwynnion

Is this a "we treat this with hormones and you're already on them" issue? I've no idea, but watching my sibling go through similar because of thyroid issues it's incredibly frustrating.

I get we have specialists because it's too much to expect of a single doctor, but if you specialise in a subset of medicine you should cover all peoples. If you specialise in a subset of peoples, you should cover all their medical issues.*

*Or have other specialists you work with who do.

@deirdrebeth Yeah, I'm not asking them to provide HRT or anything but trans healthcare is a hot potato in Texas and nobody, not even insurance, wants to touch it. We need to know if there is some underlying weirdness going on and how it relates to the rest of the problem, but everybody just sees "oh, she's on HRT" and punts.

@gwynnion

Blargh. That absolutely bites, especially as insurance has such a stranglehold on us in this country πŸ™

This is how people end up self medicating with shipments from overseas pharmacies and random self-paid tests. Some of them figure out what works and write books about it...so goals I guess 😐
