"The big fear is that future collisions will cause a domino effect where Earth’s orbit becomes cluttered with tiny, high-speed bits of metal. That could create a near-impenetrable layer of debris that would make space launches so dangerous it would essentially trap humans on Earth"

Like that's not a good thing?
Some v good graphics too.

‘This feels fragile’: how a satellite-smashing chain reaction could spiral out of control

Today, the space around Earth can no longer be considered empty. More than 30,000 objects are in orbit, and that figure is rising exponentially

@junesim63 those graphics were amazing... & elevate my contempt for musk even more
@junesim63 At the moment orbits are monitored and can be nudged in an attempt to avoid collisions. However only a couple of days ago a satellite "exploded". Those fragments can no longer be controlled and pose a risk to other satellites. If those others are impacted they will produce a further shower of bits and pieces. And so on ad infinitum. Space-X and others are playing a very dangerous "game". https://outerspaceinstitute.ca/crashclock/
