@jonesmurphy Thank you for the interesting and insightful post. I think it's possible to be both against transatlantic slavery and support a progressive socialist leader of a modern European country simultaneously - in fact, possibly the only one at the moment, and certainly the only one standing up to Trump.
Looking at various other news channels, Spain, etc. did not vote against "condemning Transatlantic slavery", they voted against it being considered "the gravest crime against humanity". It's not the same question. Bad as slavery was, is it worse than all other genocides? Native Americans, the Holocaust, etc. I feel sick even attempting to prioritise them.
I'm not Spanish and not a scholar of their country but I can imagine the 800 year occupation of their country by African Muslims may also affect their view on this too.
