@timrichards Reminds me of a story told in "The Electric KoolAid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe. Kerouac called an absent Hell's Angel a bastard. The room went very, very quiet, usually a prelude to fire-pissing and head-kicking, until Kerouac looked up and said "but he IS a bastard. I wouldn't call him a bastard if he weren't" and there was much nodding and agreeing and life went on...
