In a time of creeping bullshit age verification, users of VPNs, private browsing sessions, the dark web (Tor), the small web, and Gemini shall have serious advantages
@jake4480 Firefox's free 50gb monthly VPN could not have arrived at a better time. More people should get a taste of what the stakes are going to be sooner rather than later
@rootcompute for real. Yeah, Firefox, with all its issues, is still the better option, uBlock for one huge reason. Just sent it my mother in-law's way, as she was upset she couldn't watch YouTube without ads like she did before πŸ˜‚ she claims it didn't work when she tried the install, but sigh, I just have to go over and help her fix it. πŸ™„πŸ˜‚
Using a VPN May Subject You to NSA Spying

US lawmakers are pressing Tulsi Gabbard to reveal whether using a VPN can strip Americans of their constitutional protections against warrantless surveillance.

WIRED
@soundclamp fascinating. Yeah, they're gonna try crap. There are workarounds, or usually are. Whew, but they're gonna try. ISPs aren't gonna do/give over ANYTHING. Cox just won a big on on that, and it sets precedent, Supreme Court (dumbass Tulsi Gabbard, how I hate her haha) https://news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/cox-wins-supreme-court-ruling-that-curbs-music-copyright-suits - so yeah. I'm not a fan of Cox or corporations, but I AM a fan of our data staying private. Gonna be real tough to get any ISP to hand over anything, probably. But yeah. They can try with random sweeps and whatnot. But I'm pretty faithful that people will find ways around what they need to. Especially the younger kids πŸ˜‚
Cox Wins Supreme Court Ruling Curbing Music Copyright Suits (3)

The US Supreme Court threw out a copyright-infringement verdict against Cox Communications Inc., dealing a major blow to music industry efforts to hold internet providers responsible for piracy by their customers.

@jake4480 Fun new project I stumbled on the other day -- https://reticulum.network/

Sorta like Tor, but more flexible?

Been messing with it a bit, but much like Gemini protocol, there's not a lot of things to see on the network yet.

Reticulum Network

@jake4480 Unfortunately, the bar-to-entry for using pretty much anything Reticulum based is pretty high, since almost every bit of software starts with β€œopen up your terminal and run these python pip commands” ... πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

@jake4480 This -- https://github.com/liamcottle/reticulum-meshchat -- is probably the most user friendly way to dabble with it.

You can find your preferred OS installer here -- https://github.com/liamcottle/reticulum-meshchat/releases/tag/v2.3.0
