AWACS story. when i was in tech school for computers in the USAF, one of the other folks was a ssgt cross training from AWACS duty. she told me that at the time, officers on the AWACS got parachutes but the enlisted were supposed to go "down with the ship", destroying sensitive gear.

my response: "you're kidding! i'd be looking for the officer i could take out in a fight and stealing their parachute..."
