My take on #NoKingsDay type protests is that they may not be as radical and disruptive as you want but if participating in these is all a person does, it’s still more than people doing nothing because they’re concerned with a particular protest being “ineffective” or “state-approved” or “cringe.”

I don’t think it’s zero-sum either, unlike some people.

I guess some people must have the time and energy to be judgy about this kind of thing and I just don’t.

@MisuseCase The criticisms I find weird are ones where they say you can't just protest, you need to sign up for organizations and organize for volunteering and other events and stuff and like ...

... these are all things that we're doing to these protests. Almost like that's the main point of them.

It's like other people also thought about this and ... went and DID IT rather than just complain that it needs to be done.

That's not to say we're doing everything we possibly could. We're not

@MisuseCase grinding the entire economy to a halt with a true general strike (not for one day, for months or years).

So yeah, there's valid criticism if that's your angle. But for a lot of the stuff, the criticism is just really weird to me.

@isaackuo There are organizations building towards a general strike and they are recruiting at these kinds of protests (among other things).

@MisuseCase

i haven't been to a No Kings protest since the first one, because of all the hate directed at me, a homeless person.
