About a year ago, I tried knitting my first socks, got frustrated with the tiny needles, and made a lovely scarf with the yarn instead. Last December, I tried once again, and finished a pair of beautiful socks for my son (he tried them on many times so I could ensure they fit). This is the first of a pair for me, and I'm just happy that I gave socks another try and feel confident with this. I'm half an inch from the start of the heel, and am weirdly excited about the gusset!

#knitting

@dianemagras oh I haven't learned how to knit socks yet, the gusset looks so intimidating, but I found a very pretty sock pattern online with swords and I wanna knit it for my medievalist friend, so it's probably time to overcome my fear 😣 is it more difficult to knit socks or mittens?

@snabas Ooo, one with swords? I love that!

I've found it harder to knit socks than mittens. The gusset is intense. That said, I've got over my fear by being willing to redo parts as many times as it takes to ensure it fits and looks good. (For my son's socks, that was five times for one and twice for another.) Not the whole sock, but whole sections.

This pattern really helped me get started: https://nimble-needles.com/tutorials/how-to-knit-socks-for-beginners-the-easy-way/

Good luck if you give that amazing-sounding pattern a try!
