Used some copper strip and bookbinding tape to repair the notorious hinge and clasp fractures on a Psion Siena handheld computer, and (much as the Siena can be a frustrating device), the results are pretty good! The hinge is very stable, and the replacemenf ro the clasp is (arguably) *better* than the original design. #Psion #RIghttoRepair

@heliopolitan very nice. I've got a Psion 3a with broken hinges. It's still useable, but it would be good to fix them.

Did you fold the copper over, then screw it into place? Not sure I'm handy enough to do as good a job as you, but I might try some time.

@rpbook Hi Russell, the 3a hinges are tricky too - I've had success with filing the breaks a bit and gluing with JB Weld 2-part epoxy (super glue is a disaster - avoid) and then reinforcing with a little bookbinding tape (my fave). That said, I do want to develop a copper strip technique - yes, it's exactly as you say - fold, crimp, drill & screw. I also fixed a 3c with wire..: https://youtu.be/A1EM57DSLhY

I have a 3c with broken hinges that I would want to fix.
Any suggestions or resources?

Your button bar looks intact(?) that is a good sign! Do you still have the fragments from the inner part of the hinges? If so, I'd suggest careful dismantling and re-stick the hinges (and reinforce) with JB Weld epoxy or similar (not superglue). Alternatively, the wire prosthetic may be an option: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1EM57DSLhY - other than the hinges, they're a great machine! Here's a 3c with a 3a screen casing transplanted :-)

Unfortunately no inner parts from the hinges.
I'm not familiar with JB Weld Epoxy. Is it a two component glue or resin? At the left hinge my ill-fated attemps at repair can be seen.

I need to reconstruct at least part of the hinges.

@alexshendi @rpbook @thelastpsion I've totally been there!! Yes, JBW is a 2-parter - good stuff, but if you don't have the inner bits, that ain't gonna fly. I'm working on a concept of a plan (!) for a copper replacement hinge component, but in the meantime, I think wire is your only option here. Mine works pretty well now I have it taped down :-) Another vid: https://youtu.be/UD-3NPOpNas

I'm trying to source plastic or metal tubes with a sufficiently small inner diameter.

A view to a (device) kill:

aka "I don't think this will work"

@alexshendi @rpbook @thelastpsion what on earth is going on there?!? ;-) here's how I did it - the left hinge "acceptor" point has now fractured, but the whole thing still holds and I'm using this old 3c regularly. Investigating a possible copper strip prosthetic solution too... https://youtu.be/UD-3NPOpNas
