"The measure that advanced Friday would require voters to fill out ballots by bubbling in ovals instead of making their choices on touchscreens. Millions of ballots would need to be preprinted and stored until voters fill them out."

@DharmaDog
I would have a million times more faith in a count or recount of hand-marked paper ballots than the results of touch-screen, software-run, faith-based voting.

"In King County, Washington, an individual named Jeffrey Dean obtained a contract to program the voter-registration system. According to sources within the King County elections office, Dean also had a key to the computer room, the passcode to the GEMS computer and 24-hour access to the building. So here’s a man with access to our personal information and to the programs that count 800,000 votes.

According to the Diebold memos, Jeffrey W. Dean apparently had access not only to King County, but also to the entire suite of optical-scan software used in 37 states and the security-sensitive Windows CE program for the touch screens.
@DharmaDog
🧵 4/4 He had access to our votes,
but what Jeffrey Dean is not allowed to have is access to handling any checks.
That is because his criminal sentence for twenty-three counts of felony Theft in the First Degree forbids him to handle other people’s money, now that he has been released from prison. According to the findings of fact in case no. 89-1-04034-1:2"

@Osteopenia_Powers We switched from electronic voting in 2020 to machine marked paper ballots. You vote, the machine prints the ballot, verify, in the box, the papers are counted. This is all based on Trump and GOP attempts to cover for their loss by relentlessly attacking our voting system. We had several recounts and audits and court cases and nothing changed the results. You can not effectively, reliably, thoroughly, and securely completely alter a states voting system in less than 6 months.
@DharmaDog
This system?
"As Marks notes, the new software to be installed on every voting machine in Georgia has not been certified for use --- or even tested --- by the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission (EAC) as required by state law. But this story is even more scandalous in several ways... after another emergency hearing was called by the judge today, following another emergency filing from the Coalition on Wednesday night regarding an apparent change of plans by the Secretary of State.

@DharmaDog
""It's outrageous. They're wiping all of the software," Marks tells me, and installing "new software that's just been written, has not been tested, and has not been certified by the Elections Assistance Commission. As far as we know, it has not even been submitted for approval. This is federal certification, and Georgia, like most states, is not supposed to be using systems not certified by the federal government."

@Osteopenia_Powers We have not used hand marked, completely manual voting in this state in 3 decades. Even then it was just in remote very rural areas. I'm in my 60s and a native Atlantan and I have used voting machines of one form or another my entire life. Our current system along with recent changes is good enough and was validated in 2020. Changing the entire system and process must not be implemented until 2028 at the soonest. You don't know this state. I do and we can not pull it off!
@Osteopenia_Powers Yes, I'm a Georgia resident and well aware. Again, it was one of the most reviewed elections in history. This is now and I don't care if they want to change from Ballot Marking Devices to hand. I care about the fact that it can not be done in less than 6 months for a state of over 6 million voters. They haven't even defined funding. It's a way for the GOP to create chaos and toss the election for the Tangerine Tyrant. It would require a top to bottom overhaul.
@Osteopenia_Powers The new law being pushed through calls for bubble sheets and optical scanners which means starting over from scratch with yet another technology. Hand counting the Atlanta metro area districts with a population of over 4 million is a lot more labor than folks realize, but this law is not even calling for that. I don't care, but they need to take time to both clearly and thoroughly define the new system and design, implement, train, and not to mention, fully fund it.
@DharmaDog There's just no stopping stupid, is there?
