The Dungeon Crawler Carl series really has no reason being as amazing as it is. On the surface, it should just be a silly set of books. The Earth has just ended because of aliens and a chunk of humans are fighting for their survival in an AI-controlled dungeon. OK, there's our TTRPG conceit.

But... then you realize you are reading a critique of capitalism and the horrible things it makes us do to survive. Suddenly, you care about silly characters. Characters you realize aren't nearly as silly as they let on.

I will also say, that the audiobooks are _amazing_. They are largely done by the one narrator, and folks thought he was using other actors without giving credit. I'm going to do the print reading too, because I know there are aspects I've missed with the audiobooks. (The audiobooks aren't really abridged, but there's at least one author's note that was left out of the audiobook).

I'd definitely recommend reading and/or listening to the DCC books.

@kurtm I got the first one for Christmas last year, and tore through them all since. I'm waiting for the 8th one in May.
@faehnrich I tore through the first six audiobooks super quickly and then had the delight to realize I had missed that the seventh one was out. Apparently those who subscribe to the author's patreon have already had access to the 8th book for some time now. I've considered it, but I'm still wrestling with whether I want to experience the audiobook first as I have been doing or not.
