More information needed: does this exemption apply to corporate purchasers of housing stock, also?

@crispius
Probably he's doing it so the corporations can buy up the last few remaining homes. Welcome to Ontario, land of the rent-a-house.

@SnowyCA @crispius The housing market is actually very slow and prices are finally getting back to relatively normal. Most things selling below asking, sitting on the market sometimes for months and you can find many condos for under 500k.

He’s trying to stop that. He wants prices to go up again.

@SnowyCA @crispius I just checked, and found 155 condos for 500k or less downtown Toronto. Granted, they’re all tiny but it’s better than renting if you can get a downpayment. I grew up on a condo like that and the best thing about it was that it was ours.

Most are going to sell below asking so I would suggest for anyone that has any type of money they can leverage as downpayment on their first home, do it. Tiny and owned is better than big and rented.

@catzilla @crispius

That seems like a very high price for a tiny condo, but I suppose for TO it's ok.

@SnowyCA @crispius They were going for much more than that just over a year ago so yes, it’s good
@catzilla @crispius
A lot more?! <shaking my head at the price>
How do single people afford it?

@SnowyCA @crispius They could not

The units were mass bought by investors who airbnb’d them

At some point a 1 bed downtown was going for close to 1M

Now many buildings banned airbnb and there are other regulations so these units are back on the market.

@catzilla @crispius
A million!!! That's unreal.
