Ontario Premier Doug Ford, afraid of honesty, is changing the Freedom of Information Act to block requests of his Ministers and their staff, and so that even existing requests already in process can be dropped.
Sme of the things which would never have been uncovered under this new law:
🚩2025 Ford govt changing laws to remove just 900 metres of bike lanes
🚩2024 Ford govt trying to sell Greenbelt land using a Gmail account
🚩2022 Ford govt cancelled COVID update interview with Minister of Health because it was the Star asking
🚩2002 Harris govt lied about Indigenous burial ground at Ipperwash
Every government in Canada is too secretive. This new law is a several steps backward.

How long does it take to search your email for a single keyword? A few seconds. It’s taken Ontario sixteen months so far.
And Doug Ford’s new law killing off Freedom of Information means they won’t ever have to answer the request.

Ontario’s housing market went bust as other provinces saw prices climb. What went wrong?
How is lower cost housing "wrong"?
> Home prices and construction soared across Canada during the pandemic, but only Ontario’s market has stalled. ‘If you speak to people in Quebec or Alberta about a housing correction, they don’t know what you’re talking about.’

Home prices and construction soared across Canada during the pandemic, but only Ontario’s market has stalled. ‘If you speak to people in Quebec or Alberta about a housing correction, they don’t know what you’re talking about.’
The Doug Ford government is moving to shield politicians from scrutiny. Here are secrets the new law would have kept under wraps
> The Star has for decades used freedom of information legislation to hold governments to account.

As Premier Doug Ford prepares to reduce records available for public scrutiny, FOI advocates say the provincial officials are already helping keep documents secret by dragging their heels for months on end.
@thetyee There was a successful pilot program in Ontario, too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario_Basic_Income_Pilot_Project
Of course the moronic Ford administration cancelled it in their first year of government.
@dthompson "residents believe the east-west line will create a barrier between communities to its north and the south throughout Ontario" – Oh gosh, just like a motorway! But rail remains safer to cross due to the lack of access ramps. And foot/bike tunnels can be done cheaply.
