#EroticMusings 44: Is there an aspect of culture or political stance that shapes most or all of your erotica?

My key political stance is that i despise unjust power structures, which is unfortunately somewhat incompatible with writing BDSM porn. So I have to keep most of my politics out of there.

@ratsnakegames πŸ˜‚ I have a somewhat related problem with my belief that fetish should be without shame - sometimes a sense of shame is an important part of the fun!

@ratsnakegames

How is it unjust if all parties consent?

If your porn depends on non-consent, then it is not BDSM that is the problem, but your fetish.

(That is not a comment on your fetish, only on where the contradiction is.)

@NaraMoore I mean, my story does have power dynamics in it that muddle the whole "consent" thing. Like, maid/mistress stuff. Maids were extremely exploited in real life, they worked tons and got paid like shit, but the dynamic is just very tempting to write about and i don't want the labour politics get in the way of that
@NaraMoore in general, yeah, BDSM does require consent, but you can have nonconsensual scenarios within BDSM roleplay (because roleplay is fiction) and to me, the same goes for BDSM erotica. It does not have to fulfil the same standards for consent as real-life BDSM.

@ratsnakegames

Okay, my point, though, is it's not BDSM, but the nonconsualness how you portray it. Which is fine as long as you tag it so people know there is noncon or dubious consent.

@NaraMoore "This work explores various BDSM practices and situations of dubious consent. Some content may be upsetting for some readers.
Some practices depicted in this work of fiction are unsafe and could lead to bodily or psychological harm if done in real life. Do not use this work of fiction as an instruction manual. When engaging in any kind of BDSM practices, research the risks, take the necessary security precautions, and always establish consent with everybody involved."

@ratsnakegames

That is certainly more explicit than I go. Of course, in most cases, my D&S and fetish are consensual. Or is tagged "Drinking and dubious consent."

@NaraMoore yeah, i am really letting everything out in my writing.

All kink in Collared Maid is, ultimately, consensual, but Robin being a maid and Cynthia being her employer absolutely does undermine her ability to freely give consent, and I do not want to bog down the story with extended negotiations about limits and safewords either.

@ratsnakegames

But that's not BDSM. It is power dynamics that in RL are usually messed up.

I have the same problem with smoking. Smoking always shows up in my fiction, even though in RL it to is messed up.

@ratsnakegames I've got no idea why but, even though we're mutuals, your post doesn't show up under the hashtag for me - I just happened to spot it in my feed when you posted earlier. Sorry if I've been missing other responses! (Or do so in the future)
