@ErickaSimone
This made me have a connection in my mind:
Hypothesis: some people never actually hear the lyrics. song is like just an instrument. It feels like this explains at least some of the people who listened to Tupac and RATM and still grew to be bigots.
@Gurre @ErickaSimone yep. I started listening to lyrics when I was 27. I never really understood RATM. Now I do. 🙂
@tinoruijs @Gurre I mean, it’s okay to not understand initially. LA and the conditions that created that music were very intense. But at least you caught on EVENTUALLY. lol.

@Gurre @ErickaSimone Remember Paul Ryan? He identified RATM as one of his favorite bands.

Maybe he thought the band's name "Relinquish All to The Machine"?

@lerxst @Gurre @ErickaSimone I had politically conservative friends in high school who loved RATM. I didn’t get it in 1993 and I don’t get it now.

@ErickaSimone

Out on the road today I saw a Black Flag sticker on a Cadillac

A little voice inside my head said don't look back, you can never look back.

@ErickaSimone

"Rage Against The Machine are leftists!?"

@ErickaSimone They think they get to be the boot, without realizing the boot is worn by someone else
@ErickaSimone the allure of conformity hits individuals in their thirties or so. Many fall victim and sacrifice their critical thinking ability. The system is designed to capitalize on this.
@desertsquare most insightful thing I’ve read in a while. It always hits around 35 to 40. Been gross to watch first hand. Didn’t even think about that being ingrained into the system though.
@ErickaSimone when I say system, I'm really talking about those in power and influence, who are aware of this part of our human nature, and capitalize on it. Life beats our asses up and down the street. Everybody wants our money, and we just want a little break, because it all starts over for the new week. This makes many ripe for the pickin's and are slowly indoctrinated by those who want to keep us down. That's what I think, anyway.

@desertsquare @ErickaSimone

Exceptions, yada, yada...

Reflecting on my personal shifts in personality within that age bracket, I only find, that I've become even more left-aligned and nonconformist.

I was a lot more tame some 10 years ago, than now.

@ErickaSimone Yes but also how do you grow up knowing about climate change and still have a car?
@ErickaSimone It baffles me that UK boomers will sing along to tracks like "The Guns of Brixton" and "Oh Bondage, Up Yours!" completely oblivious to the lyrical content
