In the Star Wars movies, Obi-Wan Kenobi opines that blasters are "so uncivilized"...

...unlike the lightsaber, apparently, with which he cuts people in half, or cuts their hands and legs off.

So how about it: which are more uncivilized, lightsabers or blasters?

@ChrisJagged seems to me like guns versus knives (impossibly sharp, but otherwise similar in function). One works at a distance, the other means you need to actually interact with the person. Of course it's just a line for the movie but if I am to read something into it, I'd agree with Ken that having to personally deal a blow is more civilised than a weapon where you can also just shoot from your ivory tower, not look them in the eye, potentially like a ruler ordering someone's death
