So, my @youronly.one.ofcl account was suspended because I logged-in to #Instagram side and added a verification code to an older selfie upload. Now I no longer have access to the large #Filipino #Threads community.

This is the second time already, the first was my original account `youronly.one` and no one from Instagram assisted even after I went through their Face Verification process thrice.

Anyone who can lend assistance to get my `youronly.one.ofcl` account reinstated and have it placed in some whitelist so their automation scripts are not hitting it with false positives? I rarely login to the Instagram side because I don't need it, the only reason I have it is because Threads originally required an Instagram account.

So, this is far worse than I imagined. Because #Meta demanded to link #Facebook accounts to #Instagram last year, if your Instagram is gone, you won't be able to login to your Facebook either because it wants to be verified via Instagramβ€”the two-factor authentication is useless.

Instagram's very high false positive, and not offering a channel to appeal the wrongful suspension, cut me off from not just the #Filipino community in #Threads but also from my network, friends, and relatives in Facebook.

The hard truth: the #Philippines and the Filipino people are at the mercy of Meta, in particular, Instagram.

@youronly.one.ofcl

@youronlyone @youronly.one.ofcl FWIW, I deleted my Instagram account last year and I can still log into Fb since then.

@croyle Maybe if it's deleted, it gets disconnected properly, but if it's suspended, everything linked to it gets suspended too?

I only linked my Facebook account because it was being forced on my account. And I only have Instagram because Threads originally required it. I very rarely login on Instagram, LOL, and now everything is inaccessible.

*sigh*

@youronly.one.ofcl

@youronlyone @youronly.one.ofcl That would be horrible, but nothing bad would surprise me from Zuck's Meta gang.

I have a friend that had an Insta account suspended for no apparent reason. I think she ended up having to make a new account there after getting no answers as to why her original account was suspended.

I wouldn't have deleted my Insta account if they hadn't driven me to do it.

@croyle Yep. If only my countrymen and relatives, as well as fandoms, are not on those platforms. If only there's a very effective way to break those chains from the grassroots level. *sigh*

@youronly.one.ofcl

@croyle Did you know that it is mandatory to have a #Facebook account in our National ID data? If you don't have one, we're required to create one even if we're not going to use it.

If I'm not mistaken, the US Embassy here in the Philippines won't believe a Filipino doesn't have a Facebook account, so if you can't show any, you have less chances of getting approved, not outright denied but it will still affect the visa applicant.

@youronly.one.ofcl

@youronlyone @youronly.one.ofcl That's depressing, and insane. I guess they want a simplistic way to check your socials and tick that box. It should be illegal.

@croyle Yep! We initially fought back but Asians being Asians: "if you have nothing hide" and/or "just create one and don't use it, problem solved". πŸ˜…

Meta cornered certain cultures without them doing anything. It's why Meta and Twitter rarely react about the #SocialWeb , they have a solid market elsewhere. The North Americans, Europeans, Australians, can all stop using Meta products and Twitter, they still have a huge market in CJKM + ASEAN + South Asia. The Philippines, India, and Indonesia alone can sustain them.

If the Open Social Web really intend to change the landscape, it should focus on these three countries first, then spread to the mentioned three regions. Social Web movements are too focused on the Western (NA, EU, AU) markets, that's why it's not making a dent on these corps.

Those of us at the grassroots can only do so much. We need coverage, write-ups, events, education, campaigns, and financial support.
