You know what the Fediverse needs?
Android server software. No, really, this idea was inspired by Holos, and is what started my questions and thoughts about running Wafrn on a phone, or Holos offering a server, in a way I was overthinking things.

Think about it, for the average person who might like the idea of running their own server and controlling things, I think like me most people would look at the instructions and say 'care to put that in English(insert local language here)'.

Considering how many old phones are kicking around, how cheap you can get an old premium phone used, it'd be easy to have a cellphone sitting around the house, plugged in and on your WiFi network, just download a server app, give it a static IP on the network, heck get a static for the network if'n you can, link a domain to it, and boom goes the dynamite, you're self hosting.

Sure, even a top of the line cell phone won't serve many accounts, but how many do you really need? On my blog I have five, but only one is really active, my personal. There are two specialty accounts that mostly post content when there's something available to share, an admin account and a porn account (also low use). I'd be surprised if'n that'd be all that taxing.

@chuff 🤔 good point

Thanks, I think Holos has done great work by making your phone be both the server and the client while remaining portable thanks to a relay system to keep you connect despite the frequent connection changes that occur with a cell phone, but that also shows what a phone can do, and how an old phone could make self hosting possible.
