You know what the Fediverse needs?
Android server software. No, really, this idea was inspired by Holos, and is what started my questions and thoughts about running Wafrn on a phone, or Holos offering a server, in a way I was overthinking things.

Think about it, for the average person who might like the idea of running their own server and controlling things, I think like me most people would look at the instructions and say 'care to put that in English(insert local language here)'.

Considering how many old phones are kicking around, how cheap you can get an old premium phone used, it'd be easy to have a cellphone sitting around the house, plugged in and on your WiFi network, just download a server app, give it a static IP on the network, heck get a static for the network if'n you can, link a domain to it, and boom goes the dynamite, you're self hosting.

Sure, even a top of the line cell phone won't serve many accounts, but how many do you really need? On my blog I have five, but only one is really active, my personal. There are two specialty accounts that mostly post content when there's something available to share, an admin account and a porn account (also low use). I'd be surprised if'n that'd be all that taxing.

Does Wafrn have something like Mastodon's Lists feature where you can sort users into separate feeds? I find things like that very useful so I can follow a bunch of things, but then only check in on the kinds of things I'm really interested in at the moment. It helps me not waste time and not get overwhelmed.

So far, I think I like this more than Mastodon. There are themes and they're unfathomably based?! I'm typing this on the Wafrn98 theme. I love the Windows 98 style in general. Functionally speaking, everything that came after it was a downgrade, so I am very happy to have this theme that's peak usability with a good amount of coolness. (It's not nostalgia; the first OSes I used were OSX and Windows XP.) Though also why does the hover state take priority over the click state on the Publish button… I feel like that's a bug.

i think i give it another month before i jump to Sharkey and @eurosky.social. I want to give Wafrn a good shot but it feels still very true to my word – janky.

@gabboman is there an exit strategy for wafrn? so if i wanted to split my social presences again so i have one fediverse account and my existing atmosphere account, how would i handle fedi follows et cetera?
