searching for a way for my parents to sync up files from their local drive to the cloud. main purpose are scanned PDF documents. their scanner can do OCR. not sure I want to trust this (especially since it is an option that can be disabled). so I prefer a provider that does their own OCR and allows searching inside documents.

strong preference for European provider. I don’t want to setup Nextcloud etc. I want maintenance of this setup to be someone elses responsibility.

who can you recommend?

hmm .. maybe I will throw a #NextCloud docker onto my #Pi4 #OpenMediaVault 8 home server. then again so far I have not exposed that server to the internet. but might be painless enough to run and then not have to deal with choosing a pricing plan.
@lsmith maybe hetzner storage boxes, they support a range of methods
@mrbase from a quick look at the documentation Hetzber storage box looks more tailored to backup and not search and desktop sync.
@lsmith Ah, woops - missed the part about search, sorry.
For desktop sync you can do SMB shares - but yeah, it's more storage than a document store
@lsmith I'm quite happy with infomaniak kdrive and apparently it does ocr for pdf documents, but I haven't tried that

@bdelacretaz from my reading this is only available on kDrive Pro, which requires a minimum of 3 accounts.
