Born in England, it took 38 years to realize I was really a Canadian!

It took far less time to realize I was gay.

I work in post-secondary education and spent two notable years as a political staffer in Ottawa & NS. Proud of my progressive values.

I am grateful to live in Mi'kma'ki.

I live in Truro with my family (husband and two grown up sons). The Mi'kmaq name for Truro is "Wagobagitik," which means "end of the water's flow." 🦣

@matthewguy Hello 🙂 place names are interesting- I used to live in Truro, Cornwall. There the name is thought to have come from the Cornish phrase for "3 rivers" or a phrase meaning "the town on the rivers". I prefer the last one I think.

@webidebi Oh that is interesting (and a nice connection between the meanings). Here the colonial names seem to have reflected people missing where they came from. We have a Halifax, Liverpool (on the Mersey River), Berwick, Enfield, Oxford and the list goes on! The Mi'kmaq names are often more interesting (but sometimes hard to pronounce).

@matthewguy it always amused me that Sheffield in South Africa is on the coast and as unlike the original Sheffield as it possibly could be. Someone must have been REALLY homesick!

I'm sure the Mi'kmaq names are a lot more interesting 🙂 (Mind you I thought that about romantic sounding places in the Highlands but then found out that a lot of the Gaelic names are just describing the geography along the old routes "green hill", "yellow ridge", "glen with the willows" etc).
