Do you ever sacrifice blunt clarity for prose that flows well?

I don't think of it that way. Bluntness, clarity and flow are different things not in opposition to each other. Blunt prose can be obscure. Blunt prose can flow, or anyway drive, forward. Flowing prose can be crystal clear and transparent, or oneiric, metaphorical, musical.

If I'm trying to do a particular thing, I'm not sacrificing any of the things I wasn't trying to do anyway.

@petealexharris I would have answered this the same.

I also factor in the POV character when it comes to the writing. They think, feel, notice, act, and speak differently so this can be reflected in the writing.
