It’s indeed a good thing to not hold international scientific conferences in the USA now and possibly for some time into the future. Communities find other venues and hosts at other places. There might be very minor effects on scientific quality

But: Our colleagues currently based in the US cannot attend as they feel unsure about how to return. And this will have an effect as networking suffers in hybrid or remote-only settings

@CerstinMahlow I think that it has been shown that people don't need to travel through airports to be detained anymore. It might be wise for these people to look for an out, regardless of conferences.

@CerstinMahlow I think good use of streaming media and large screens is the way to go. Multi-location conferences with overlapping time zones. Reduce carbon footprint too.

@artemis In general yes, for this particular conference, the experience will be not as great as it could be and as the community needs it. We will manage
