The housing market is basically a game of musical chairs where the music stopped in 1978, but we all agreed to just keep walking in circles pretending to dance because sitting down requires changing zoning laws

@Daojoan even in places without restrictive zoning laws like in my country, Argentina, the housing market is a mess. No one makes affordable housing, I guess it's not profitable enough.
@Daojoan upzoning market housing doesn't make housing less expensive. Only subsidized social housing, the stuff built outside the market, (which stopped getting real funding around oh, 1978) does that. Upzoning only shores up prices by making land more valuable because more units are allowed. We've seen this over and over. Never, never, do any of these upzoning advocates point to a place where rent got more affordable after upzoning. Because that's not real. Build social housing now.
