If you actually want to know why, it’s because of the failed efforts to find a of peaceful solution. Extremists on both side have repeatedly fucked it up for decades and decades. Not accepting that any solution will be a compromise has lead only to increased violence. So now many on both sides now see the obliteration of the other side as the only possible peaceful solution. It’s hard to imagine how one gets to the point of wanting to kill children, tho.

Isreal was hardly created with the idea of ethnic supremacy. It was more of ethnic survival. Things have certainly gone downhill, and maybe that was inevitable with any ethnic or religion based system. Unfortunately a lot of the world seems to like to tribalise itself - you won’t find much acceptance of religious diversity / equality in Muslim states either.
