'Pissing Down'

Rock walls sway when watered,
cascade into a pleasantness, for
the rainbows, and
the tourists,

the homeless, in the car parks,
waiting for the loos
and a little providence,
par excellence,

something Godly for a prayer's due,
and perhaps a little less rain.

@TashPoetry

Excellent contrast between tourists and the homeless.

@Owen_G_Richards NZ carparks at tourist sites often have families living out of cars.

They have nowhere else to go.

@TashPoetry

It is a shitty state of affairs that could so very easily be rectified if everyone paid their dues. (Of course, billionaires, I am glaring at you!).

@Owen_G_Richards I think it is a complex interplay of factors.

NZ is a relatively low productivity country, with poor infrastructure outside of the main centres. We have an unsustainable social service system without the productivity to buffer the vulnerable in our society.

Low numbers of actual homes, high cost of food, despite being a food-producing nation (due to free market practices) and generational poverty.

NZ is dependent on outside money coming in, including migrants & yet hates it.

@TashPoetry

Yeah, I kind of got that impression when I visited a couple of times.

No one likes immigrants because... (add racist commentary here) ...even though they tend to be productive and mostly self-sustaining.

A beautiful country, nonetheless.
(The UK minus a lot of the crap - possibly with other kinds of crap, but none that I remember).

@Owen_G_Richards I am glad that you got the gist of the title being my sardonic reference to trickle down economics.
