“I need to discuss science vs. engineering. Put glibly:
In #science if you know what you are doing you should not be doing it.
In #engineering if you do not know what you are doing you should not be doing it."

― Richard Hamming, "The Art of Doing Science and Engineering: Learning to Learn" (1997)

I just want to share another dimension of Hamming, this n-dimensional demigod of a man….

@AmenZwa

Perfect. No notes.

@PeterLG
Some blokes just have that special relationship with words. Hamming’s one.
@theoriginaljoefisher It’s Ava and Leif in a nutshell

@AmenZwa

science :: engineering : research :: development

@AmenZwa look guy just because you gave us Hamming codes doesn't mean you get carte blanche on wasting our time with semantic nonsense 😠
@mancube Hamming Code was not the only thing Hamming did. I liked his turn of phrase, and his simple, but deep, statement rings true with practising scientists and licensed engineers. Besides, reading those few word wastes no time at all.
