i'm in love with aliexpress item descriptions

@whitequark it means "brute force"

the rest sounds about right

@whitequark Violent model: 8000 rpm, noise about 40-50, reaches heaven

@snowfox power supply that provides enough thrust for takeoff

honestly server PSUs already sound like that

@whitequark @snowfox The 400W isn't the available output. It's the cooling fan motor draw. 😈
@whitequark @snowfox The blade chassis I prodded a few times back in college sounded like it was about to shear the bolts holding it into the rack and take flight whenever one of the blades was booting... (Like "actual hearing protection required" loud. We had to make a really long console cable that snaked under the door to poke at the thing, as we couldn't get the network management interface working for some reason)

@becomethewaifu @whitequark It's honestly a little mindboggling that someone decided "what if we designed a form factor that was even more annoying to cool than a 1U server and just made the fans even louder?"

Surely there's a better way!

@whitequark That brings back memories of the server rack that made the break room unusable once we got our first rack-mount server.

Forrunately it didn't take *too* long to figure out how to poke the fan controller from an init script and set the minimum speed to 1/255 (which was still surprisingly audible).

@whitequark @snowfox

honestly server PSUs already sound like that

… while the server is powered off.

@whitequark violent model
@whitequark Violent model... Hm...

@whitequark "How much noise would you say you're making right now?"

"Eh, about 25"

@mcc @whitequark so, not violent, then.
@whitequark 25 noise is pretty good
@whitequark more devices should offer a violent model
