Drove the almost rebuilt A14 Vilnius-Moletai road. Usable, but still slower than the 172 next to it thanks to two construction traffic lights.

A lot of yet unmarked road, traffic diversions, you have to go around a bridge being worked on instead of under and for what must be historical reasons, a 10m long section of the old Betonke, just as reminder how bad that was.

Much of it is single lane traffic with a center barrier, no overtaking apart from a few sections with two lanes.

So many excavators on this stretch of road you'd hardly notice if one sunk irretrievably into a swamp*

I guess they were needed to distribute the many quarries worth of gravel that got piled up there.

* Which it did, if you're not keeping up with the news

@yngmar single line? That road is corrupted.

@[email protected] What I didn't understand is why such huge amounts of gravel were hauled there that didn't seem to serve much purpose in terms of smoothing out elevation differences.

Must've smoothed out some quarry owners bank balances very nicely though.

And yes, I was expecting a full two lane road like the A2 and was surprised at the single lane (with center barrier!) stretches.

Still, it's a major upgrade. What it cost, I assume too much :)

@yngmar as i know no gravel can be used in road building, only stone chips (idk eng name) because broken stones will make very sturdy basement. Stone wedges. While gravel is round stones, they like bearings.
Need to see how much of different size stone chips should be used for that road load.
@mcSlibinas What I saw in the giant pile in Moletai right by the Lidl parking lot looked like the same sand-with-small-pebbles mix we bought from the local quarry. Which does collapse and also wash away. And did that winter, they had to fix it again. So I do wonder how it will last. Maybe they sprinkled some cement on it 🤷
@yngmar so corrupted system produce corrupt things.
Now they doing bike lines.
Digg one inch of grass - and it's good enough.
I waiting to look what they will do next.
Put asphalt on moved grass?
@mcSlibinas Saw a guy in Santariškes today do circles in his John Deere mower in the park. No grass has grown there yet 😆
