You can get de-thorned varieties. I ran into some years ago before I knew what they are. Found their characteristic seed pods on the ground and wanted to know what the tree was. They didn't have any thorns. Were located by a city owned water tower I was working at...
Itâs a good, tough tree for light shade. The thornless varieties are good, but if they are not also seedless youâll get offspring with thorns. And thatâs a problem!
