Ross of Ottawa@stephanie @NuanceRhymesWithOrange I agree, a smell test should tell you, and looking closely for any signs of mould or foreign visitors. Noses are pretty good at detecting bad things.
Funny, so many cooking shows say "throw away older spices because they being to lose their flavour!"
…but they never point out that you can just use more until it tastes the way you want. Especially when recipes are calling for a quarter tsp or something – twice as much is no big deal.
