Nova Scotia is moving to a competitive electrical market - which I have mixed feelings about.

NS now has an independent system operator, instead of everything being vertically integrated into NSP, and the first private competition to NSP launches this fall with its own wind generation using the NS Power grid.

Interesting to see what the prices will be and how the price guarantees work.

In context, I suppose this is a good thing considering now it's a private for profit monopoly with a guaranteed rate of return by law 🙄 that burns coal and gas still 😮‍💨.

If the price is right, I'm hoping to ditch NSP and buy wind energy from Renewall.

@Javensbukan Sorry that your idiot government is heading down this road. My Ontario government did it years ago, and now, I don't even know how much taxpayer money Doug Fraud dumps into the system to artificially keep our rates low.

@toddalio That's what I'm concerned about.

Alberta has a privatized system and while you *can* pay very little, bills are on average the third highest in the country somehow because maths.

@Javensbukan All these right wing Premiers think they can make everything better by privatization, but it's just a grift to funnel taxpayer money to their rich friends. Though, IIRC, it was an Ontario Liberal government that pushed our ⚡ privatization through.

@toddalio Sadly here in Nova Scotia that happened way back in 1992 (also PCs).

Since then it's been a privatized monopoly, with a guaranteed rate of return regardless of their performance. 🤦

My optimal choice would be for it to be a public utility again, but considering we have a PC government rn that can't stop shooting itself in the foot financially, I highly highly doubt that will happen.
