🤦 big sigh....
@Beachbum @VeroniqueB99 For a Real ID I had to get decades old birth/marriage documentation from 2 different states thousands of miles from where I currently live. My passport had expired. I was concerned that I'd need Real ID to fly. This happened during the pandemic. It took months and cost about $150 in fees.
Mandatory voter roll purges, imprisonment of election workers, increased barriers to voting for women and minorities. Many Americans have no idea what's coming if the bill passes.
@Barbramon1 @Beachbum @VeroniqueB99 The argument I’ve seen circulating on #FoxNews and elsewhere is “I had to show my birth certificate and piece of mail to get a real ID.” Indeed, I had to do exactly that when I moved to #Tennessee last year. It’s interesting to me that the other part of that, that the name on your birth certificate has to match your current name, is either not understood or is deliberately not made plain. I’m still optimistic that the #SaveAct won’t pass, though I know #Trump is all in for it. Guess we’ll see if a spine somehow exists in all of the mess of the GOP.
@Thumper1964 @Beachbum @VeroniqueB99 A number of parts of Save América Bill are purposely downplayed by the right. Anyone who legally changed their name must provide extra documentation, no exceptions. True for
for passports, Real IDs, and for the new law, should it pass.
They downplay the power federal government would command over functions that always belonged to states, including mandatory purges of voter rolls. Criminal and civil liability for election workers, even for mistakes, is scary
