#Picathecat on her back, her head hanging over the edge of the couch... and then a strange meow.

Writhes and dangles over the edge more. Suddenly, from that angle she sees *birds* horrible birds! (At the bird feeder in the window.)

Whiskers twitch.

In defiance of all logic and laws of physics she launches herself in a backwards arc landing next to the couch on her four little soft paws now facing the "horrible birds" (during this her head was stationary like a door hinge) she's remarkable.

Then, as if the field of the plausible were catching up to her, she just ... capsized ... for no reason from a standing position. Like a boat struck by a rouge gravity wave. Paws splayed.

She bounces under the table, crawling upside-down: gravity reversed, face a rictus of fascinated greed.

She then jumps at the birds twisting 180 in the air, like an athlete or a very fancy fishing lure, like a male ballet dancer ... only to have her face smack the window.

The doves fly away cooing, laughing.

I'm really struggling to describe what I just witnessed.

@futurebird

"Thousands of years ago the Egyptians worshipped cats as gods. Cats have never forgotten this."

@futurebird as Tom said: little Pica is truly a master at work...

@rlstone4dems

She's 17 years old. Which is supposed to mean these are her calm elderly years. She did not get that memo.

@futurebird @rlstone4dems that's an insane manoeuvre especially for a cat her age. Awestruck too, I would be.

@futurebird
Oy got himself dangling from the crosspiece in my office window so he could hunt a fly in the top half.

Once again I am happy to be too big to usefully hunt. Cats are a bit scary, ya know?

@futurebird You saying this after crafting such an incredibly evocative word picture only makes the details richer in my mind, like my brain is trying to figure out how what it's already imagining could be even MORE
@futurebird I would pay a whole lot of money to have seen that. 😆
@futurebird cats are natural born fate shifters
@futurebird cats are the best, what a performance
@futurebird I hope you kept a straight face and due gravitas during this episode, Pica will have noted your reaction. If it is not suitably grave there will be serious repercussions.

@aadeacon

You are absolutely correct. There is NOTHING funny about this. It was a precious moment of predatory athleticism and it was very rude of the birds to be on the other side of the glass.

@futurebird @aadeacon And your understanding of this core truth is one reason she tolerates your foibles.
@futurebird Physics is optional for cats. Physics knows better than to argue.

@futurebird I don’t know if this video has the relevant slow motion clip (it’s probably earlier in the series, honestly), but squirrels do similar things: rapid target acquisition, head remarkably stable, body gyrates to control how and where they land…

@futurebird Words seem inadequate here. Can we see a diagram?
