When you were a child, what was your parent's attitude toward sugar?
No sugar in any form, even juice was forbidden
Natural sugars were okay
Sugar in coffee or tea was okay
Sugar in home-baked treats were okay
Sugar on cereal was okay, but no sugared cereals
I could have sugar in any form
My parents taught me how to mainline sugar

@dougcuff It was just never a concern. I grew up in the tang and koolaid generation, but, also, we didn't drink pop or eat huge bags of potato chips, and cookies were just for school lunch boxes or treats. So it all worked out.
@CStamp I had a similar experience, but I was started to learn recently that a contemporary had a wildly different experience back in the day.
@dougcuff Ugh, that's too bad. Fixating on stuff like that doesn't set kids up for healthy relationships with food.

@dougcuff @CStamp I grew up in the kool-aid/tang time, but (natural) juice was considered "a treat".

Very occasionally we'd buy boxed cereal, but never anything "sweet". Halloween candy had limits (no suckers or hard candy) and (theoretically) one per day.
