If you listen to what the secretary of war says you might think that young men are excited to join the military. Hegseth has talked about "the Trump bump" which is supposed to be an increase in young men signing up to serve because the alpha males are back and comedy is now legal or something.

The US military has met its recruitment goals, though even in their own report they mention that economic stress may have helped make this possible.

They have also raised the maximum enlistment age to 42.

I think the age to enlist should START at 42 and go up to 100. And bring back the draft. Members of congress, the president and the cabinet get their names put in the raffle ten times. And their kids all have to go, regardless of age.

@futurebird this presupposes that members of congress care about their kids
@winter @futurebird Darned good point. Quite a lot of politicians only care about their families insofar as they are useful. The president is absolutely number one at that... (Yes I'm pretty sure bone spurs 2.0 is because he sees that particular child as potentially useful in the future. Which does also kind of imply that Project 2025 does indeed intend to bring back the draft...)
