I remember the fuel crises, and carless days, so all my adult life Iʼve driven like a hypermiler—Iʼll coast in neutral, even if itʼs something you shouldnʼt do, and use higher gears rather than accelerate harder. I realize modern automatics are really economical, but for a lot of cars, manuals are thriftier, which is one reason I buy them. I might not save any more right now, but Iʼm glad these techniques are habitual. So many of my old Instagram posts were about the mpg I was able to achieve.
@jackyan Except that modern management systems have fuel cut on 0% throttle over run so you're probably using more fuel by using neutral
@PatrickHerd Nothing like that in my car. I think thereʼs a cut-off in the event of an accident, thatʼs it.
