I was riding my bike today. I have a little round mirror on my left handlebar that is mostly blocked by my body.

And I thought. What I need is a periscope.

Yeah. A periscope.

I just have to figure out how to design it.

I know how to cut glass and dabbled in kaleidoscope making.

I can also do 3d modeling and 3d printing.

So honest opinions. Do any of you think the could legitimately work ?

It would be like a tube shape running the bar length. With a viewing window that would sit on top. And a capture mirror behind the seat facing backwards.

Might take a while to design this but I think it is possible.

Sure, it sounds like you know more than me. So you get the benefit of a collector that isn’t blocked by your body, but you don’t need to turn your head to see the image?

It sounds sort of like the idea is approaching rear radar, but without any batteries

Yeah there would be something like a view finder in the front. Like this.

Would almost look like a little LED screen but it would be a mirror you would be looking at.

I think you could make something that works, but it would be heavier than just having the mirror out a little further.

That’s true. A very complex solution when a simpler solution exists.

I might still play around with some ideas. Mirrors and prisms can be tricky and sometimes require focusing lenses. That would make the whole thing much more complicated and cost more.
