I love my Mirrycle. They’re a must-have on any of my bikes and I’ve gotten them for family members too. Very solid and sturdy design with great visibility.

I got some Pidzoom helmet mirrors a while back and I don’t think I’ll ever use something else. Field of view is great, I hardly ever have to adjust it, and build quality seems overkill but I’ve dropped it a fair bit and it’s fine so maybe it’s as sturdy as it should be.

If you want to look weirder, put a second mirror on the other arm of your glasses!

Helmet Mirror

Pidzoom looks very nice! I might give it a try!
I only ever trust setup like the bar end one. I used to have those cheapo one that i can clip onto my handle, which doesn’t vibrate as it doesn’t have a long stick, but it hinder my grip. Then i upgrade(downgrade?) to handlebar one. The FOV is nice and it’s clearer, but the vibration nullify the gains, it make the vision worst as I can’t differentiate what type of vehicles are creeping toward me, or if any, and it’s worst at night, so i drop mirror altogether. Maybe i’ll get a bar end one and see if my hand would block the mirror or not.

I was riding my bike today. I have a little round mirror on my left handlebar that is mostly blocked by my body.

And I thought. What I need is a periscope.

Yeah. A periscope.

I just have to figure out how to design it.

I know how to cut glass and dabbled in kaleidoscope making.

I can also do 3d modeling and 3d printing.

So honest opinions. Do any of you think the could legitimately work ?

It would be like a tube shape running the bar length. With a viewing window that would sit on top. And a capture mirror behind the seat facing backwards.

Might take a while to design this but I think it is possible.

Sure, it sounds like you know more than me. So you get the benefit of a collector that isn’t blocked by your body, but you don’t need to turn your head to see the image?

It sounds sort of like the idea is approaching rear radar, but without any batteries

I think you could make something that works, but it would be heavier than just having the mirror out a little further.
I have my end mirror under the handlebars, not above. My visibility is a lot better, rather than looking at my own elbow, and with it under the bar, it gets bumped a lot less.
Oh, good tip!

And then I had one guy inform me that I can also look over my shoulder

I usually do that but one of the few times I didn’t a car cuts me off and almost runs me over, hence buying a handlebar mirror

Thanks for the writeup! I have the Mirrcycle on my recumbent and it’s been a pretty good mirror.

Good grips btw.
