I'm experimenting with a local instance for my small town, and I have the same problem. I wish the Mastodon frontend and app could be rebranded more easily, but the second best solution would be what @CleoMenezesJr proposes.

@stefan's tool looks good, but I guess it's still too complicated for many.

Most people in my community don't really need to know the name of the server backend system (Mastodon).

That's just what Mastodon, the company, chose to name their community, hosted on a server, which is running the Mastodon software.

Try this: https://invite.jointhefediverse.net/?server=tutoteket.no

Arguably, this would be more useful with a Norwegian translation, which is unfortunately not available yet.

You might want to check out @newsmast too, and/or speak with @jaz about what he’s done with #TootWales!

You can’t even tell it’s #Mastodon under the hood. It’s terrible advertising for us and we love it 😉

@haubles @stefan @ahaldorsen @CleoMenezesJr @andypiper @nick @matt @teamtoot @newsmast agreed, we went with a one stop branded app in the app stores, it connects directly with our community, and does not use the words mastodon, instance, fediverse or anything along those lines. When I showed my sister-in-law my toot.wales feed, she gave the response I believe most people genuinely feel: “It’s lovely! If only there was an app.” She doesn’t want a pr…
