My weekend project was moving to UniFI!

Started with the Express 7 and the flex 2.5G. Keyword "started", because this setup will evolve in the future (already got some things on my shopping cart)

I still need to use the Telekom Speedport as modem because DSL, but I will hopefully get rid of it soon-ish since fiber has been installed in our building. We just need to wait on the city to finish something.

I love the #UniFi dashboard and all the customization! I've learned so much this past week

@fedicat congrats! I’m on unifi as well. Be careful though. It can become quite addicting. Hold on to your wallet. 🤣

@andrast oh believe me, I'm aware 😅

Next I'm planning on getting a Gateway Fiber and a U7 Pro to have better coverage. The Express 7 will end up being an additional AP, but it was a great little toy to start and see if I liked it.

May I ask how you started your Unifi journey and what your setup currently looks like? 👀

@fedicat I started with a UDR7 and a couple of U7 in-wall units. My home is long and narrow, so the UDR is in the middle and the U7s on each end. Then it grew from there once I figured out that my phone lines (that were previously unused) were wired using CAT5e cables. That opened up doors!
@fedicat I then added some switches and additional APs. After that, I decided to replace my doorbell and dabbed in to getting a couple of cameras… 😀
It never seems to stop. It’s been fun though. The software is so good. Been learning a lot about networking, VLANs, etc.
I’m jealous you have fiber. I bet that is really nice.

@andrast that sounds like a great setup for ideal coverage!

Yeah, the reason I want to get the UCG Fibre is for Protect to setup at least 1 camera. I’ll buy an ssd for the storage later. The expandabilty of the system is incredible and really easy…

@andrast … There’s fibre in our building now, but the city still needs to come and do something (idk what) and then we can go and get a fibre plan. But it’s been months already 🤷

I’ve learned a lot about networking too, and playing around with the settings is beginning to feel like a hobby 😅

@fedicat that is one of my favorite parts. Being so modular, you can just upgrade as you need it without having to change major components. Great idea to start with just one and see how it goes. I agree, it’s become a fun little hobby.
