Bit of a left-field PSA this, but… if you own an iPhone/iPad in the UK and:

- you DON'T own a credit card
- you DON'T have a driving license
- you have NOT had your Apple account for more than 18 years

…don't upgrade to iOS 26.4 if you want to install (or some cases, use) 17+ rated apps or stream 18+ films/tv on itvX, netflix, etc.

The update adds mandatory OS-level age verification to meet UK law and Apple doesn't currently accept passports (!) to prove age.

#Apple #iOS26

@omgubuntu More like a left wing PSA. Stop using it.

@shwell I don't think politics comes into it.

It's currently a pragmatic, overnight reality: the update may install itself, and UK users – where it's far more common to have never owned a credit card, nor drive – can't use valid ID to prove their age.

The PSA is not, as the follow up notes, a grumble re: "why" age verification is now required to use Reddit or stream tv shows with naughty swears in, just a heads-up that without the items mentioned, folks can't.

"Stop using it" is moot.

@omgubuntu Politics is very relevant. There is a branch of politics that supports surveillance more so than the other. All the current 'updates', purportedly for issues like child safety are in reality moves to force surveillance on people. Gavin Newsom is championing 'age assurance' (Digital ID) for example.
